Bilz Tool’s TER shrink chuck is said to reduce tool costs, extend tool life and increase productivity by using the shrink technique available to ER collet chucks. The hole in the collet chuck has a slightly smaller diameter than the shaft of the tool, so an alternating electromagnetic field generates inductive heating to expand the hole. The tool is inserted and a subsequent cooling phase shrinks the hole again and clamps the tool to create a solid, single piece that can withstand maximum torques, the company says. The system is said to minimize both stress and wear, and is suitable for medical applications, among others.
